Palace Square is explored at an unhurried pace and can be shortened if you are tired. Return via Martial Waters, Russia’s first spa resort founded by Peter the Great; back at the hotel around 18:00. Explore the marble canyon, suspension walkways and Italian Quarry; the underground route or a canyon boat is optional. Around 13:00 — a private halal picnic set beside the lake. Back in Petrozavodsk around 20:00. If Lake Ladoga is stormy, Valaam moves to a reserve day and the agreed alternative is Sortavala, waterfront photographs and kalitki tea at the hotel — decided in advance, not on the pier.

Depart around 08:00 — cross Lake Onega by Meteor hydrofoil to Kizhi Island (~1 h 15 min one way; if you need dedicated seats on the hydrofoil, the benchmark is ~$60 per person round trip — we book in advance). From December to March, while the ice is stable, the Meteor is replaced by a hivus airboat on the same route with comparable travel time. Visit the UNESCO open-air museum of wooden architecture: the 1714 Transfiguration Church with 22 domes built without a single nail, village farmsteads and bell towers.
