Russia E-Visa for Gulf Citizens: Step-by-Step (2026)

January 15, 2026Maria

Russia's entry rules changed fast in 2025–2026. This guide is for Gulf passport holders planning leisure travel to St. Petersburg, Murmansk, or Moscow — updated for 2026.

Visa-free vs e-visa: quick check

Saudi Arabia: visa-free from 11 May 2026 for up to 90 days (verify latest MFA notice before booking).

UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait: typically e-visa for tourism unless you hold a diplomatic passport with a separate agreement. Rules shift — we confirm at booking.

What the e-visa covers

The unified e-visa usually allows entry through designated air and land checkpoints. Northwest Russia (St. Petersburg Pulkovo) is covered for most Gulf nationalities — Murmansk and Karelia trips stay within the same region if routed correctly.

Documents you need

  • Passport valid 6+ months beyond return date, with blank pages.
  • Digital photo (white background, no glasses glare).
  • Travel medical insurance accepted by Russian consular systems.
  • Hotel booking or invitation letter — we provide invitation support for Almas guests.
  • Return ticket or onward booking (may be requested at check-in).

Step-by-step application

  1. Open the official Russian MFA e-visa portal (use only .gov.ru domains — we send the current link on WhatsApp).
  2. Create an account and select nationality + purpose Tourism.
  3. Upload passport scan and photo — match passport spelling exactly (including dual names).
  4. Enter dates aligned with your actual flight — e-visa validity windows are strict.
  5. Pay the consular fee online (non-refundable if dates wrong).
  6. Download the PDF within the stated processing time (often 4–20 business days — never book non-refundable flights on day one).
  7. Print two copies + save offline on your phone.

At Pulkovo immigration

Have printed e-visa, insurance, and hotel address in Cyrillic. Officers may ask purpose of visit — answer tourism, show return ticket. Families: keep children’s passports in one folio for faster processing.

Common mistakes

  • Applying with dates that do not cover internal flights to Murmansk.
  • Insurance policy without Russian Federation coverage line.
  • Passport name mismatch with airline ticket (married names, third names).
  • Assuming visa-free Saudi rules apply before the official start date.

How Almas helps

We track MFA updates weekly. For confirmed bookings we: align invitation letters with hotel names, send Cyrillic address cards for immigration, and double-check e-visa dates against your itinerary before you pay for flights.

Pro tip

Apply at least 25 days before travel in peak summer (June–August). E-visa queues slow when White Nights season starts.
